EUCLID UK
UK MEMBERSHIP
HOW TO APPLY

Updated October 2026

  1. Prepare your application documents. You will need:

    • a short CV; and
    • an application/covering letter.

The application letter should reflect the category of membership you are applying for. The guidance below explains the UK-specific criteria your application must meet and what the letter must contain.

  2. Submit your membership request through the Euclid Consortium Tracking Portal. Follow the general Euclid Consortium guidance and submit your initial membership request through the Tracking Portal. At this stage, you are submitting the membership request itself rather than uploading your application documents.

  3. Look out for the follow-up request to upload your documents. After submitting your membership request, you will automatically receive a link directing you to your Tracking profile page, where you can upload your short CV and application letter.

CATEGORY 1

The first (“Category 1”) is based on previous connections with Euclid either in the UK or another EC member nation. This category should cover colleagues who wish to ‘reactivate’ their lapsed membership, or moved from abroad, or wish to change their status (e.g. graduated Euclid PhD students). Please outline your previous connections with Euclid in your covering letter (see below) and provide details of the EC OUs and/or SWGs you are active within. If you are involved in any declared EC projects, please provide such details.

Such membership requests will be assessed by the UK ECB representatives and should be straightforward.

CATEGORY 2

The second category (“Category 2”) is for new members to the Euclid Consortium. We ask all applicants to include the following in their covering letter:

  • Reasons for wanting to join the Euclid Consortium, including the activities or areas of work they hope to contribute to.
  • The ‘added value’ they would bring to the consortium. This could include new skills, new data, new software, innovative ideas, additional resources, or other relevant contributions.
  • Confirmation that they, or their supervisor or line manager acting on their behalf, have discussed their proposed membership and activities with the appropriate SWG and/or OU lead, and that the relevant lead(s) endorse the application and are happy for it to proceed.

Warning: Applications that do not name the relevant SWG lead(s) and confirm their endorsement will be returned with a request for this information.

Supervisor / Line Manager FTE

Applicants should name their supervisor or line manager, where applicable, and state the total FTE contribution recorded for that person in the Euclid Tracking Portal. If their supervisor or line manager has more than 2 FTE of contributed time recorded in the Tracking Portal, the application can be accepted on this basis, subject to the usual endorsement from the relevant SWG and/or OU lead, and the applicant does not need to meet the additional criteria set out below.

Applicants without a Supervisor / Line Manager above 2 FTE

If the applicant’s supervisor or line manager does not have more than 2 FTE of contributed time recorded in the Euclid Tracking Portal, the applicant should additionally explain in their covering letter why their proposed work requires Euclid Consortium membership and cannot instead be carried out using public Euclid data releases, including public releases planned within the next 6 months.

This requirement also applies to early career researchers, including PhD students and postdocs, even where they are planning to work with an existing Euclid Consortium member. However, additional contributions to the consortium, such as the applicant bringing significant time and effort, will be looked upon favourably. Applicants should therefore outline their expected time commitment to Euclid and state the membership status of their supervisor, line manager or host.

These applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the importance and relevance of the proposed work, the added value to Euclid, and the career stage of the applicant. Some flexibility may therefore be appropriate for early career researchers. Category 2 requests will be assessed by the UK ECB representatives in consultation with the Euclid UK Coordination Group (EUCG), with further input sought from colleagues across the consortium, such as SWG leads, where appropriate.

AFTER MEMBERSHIP IS APPROVED

Once an EC member, please see the EC quickstart guide for information on how to become involved in EC activities. Please remember authorship rights are based on contributions to the Euclid consortium. As an EC member, we expect you to have read the EC Code of Conduct.
